Sonie's Birthday

What an honor to do some yummies for Sonie!

We decided on mini cheesecakes with a caramel drizzle - and some homemade whipped cream to top it off. I used the cookie part of oreos for the "crust" - YUM.

The toppers were done in a 70's theme. You know what that means...lots of avocado green and a lot of yellow. Among the toppers were osterizer blenders, aprons, baskets overflowing with laundry, S&H green trading stamps (you got from the grocery store back in the day), rotary telephones, orange tupperware juice containers, and the unforgettable station wagon complete with faux wood siding! Forgot the camera - but Trav managed to get a photo on his phone...sorry for the image quality!

Coach Purse Sculpted Cake

Francis is the BEST husband ever!

Not only did he buy his wife Jane a Coach purse for Christmas...but for her birthday - he got her another one!!! Well...a cake that looks like one anyway. :)




I made a black and silver Sabrina Op Art Coach purse - it was a lot of work...but a ton of fun!

The cake was a mocha chocolate cake with chocolate swiss meringue buttercream. The original plan was to have the handles stand up - but they needed a few more days to dry for that - oh well. Lesson learned.

I made the "C"s using a paintbrush and some silver luster dust. The ornaments, logo, and emblem are made from fondant - and handpainted. I am most proud of the beading on the three tags. It took forever - but what a payoff! The realism made all the difference.




I only wish I had an airbrush machine - someday... someday... Travis finally sees the importance of the tool to make these cakes just that much better.

Compost Cupcakes?!?

That's right!

Our friend and co-worker Jose has taken a job with a new department. :( Sad for us...a very good move for him...congratulations!!!

He's going to be teaching the importance of composting and how to compost to kids and families - so I decided to make him some compost cupcakes. They are made of dark chocolate cake and a chocolate swiss-meringue buttercream topped with crushed oreos. The worms are shaped and molded/detailed out of tinted gumpaste.

Kacy's Birthday

Sonie and Kacy Cooper's birthday party was so much fun! It was at the Cooper-Kochhar home - Trey's buddy Dillon's house. It was a surprise party for Sonie's 70th birthday - so we did a 70's theme! Kacy's 14th birthday is very close - so they celebrated both that day.

Kacy plays for the Los Gatos-Saratoga Girls Softball Assocation - Team Magic. We decided to replicate her hat for her cake. This is another cake based on Elisa Strauss' design...in hind sight I would follow more the hat's details rather than the book suggestions on where to place the divets for realistic look. Kacy's hat is a bit more squared with a shorter brim...but everyone was pleased so I'm happy! :) Kacy's cake was vanilla with a mocha java chip swiss meringue buttercream filling - YUM!

Photos of Dillon's grandma's cheesecake cupcakes to come - I don't have photos - so I'm going to have to round up some party photos. :)

The Immaculate Collection

Movin' on up...to the - well - to a VP position at the Community Health Partnership! Congrats!!!

We had a going away party for her and if you know Mai, then you'd know that a stiletto heel would be the perfect "walking" cake. The cake design is from Confetti Cakes (one of my idols - Elisa Strauss) - and fit the pink and black theme perfectly.

The shoe is made from gum paste with intricate stitching detail and hand painted zebra print - the shoe box is the cake - three layers on the bottom and one layer as the lid. The tissue paper is gum paste as well with some petal dust for glamour.

Mai's real name is Immaculate - so how appropriate to make the shoe from "The Immaculate Collection" - with her leaving the County - it was the Final Closeout Sale.

Preschool Marvel Superheroes

Yousef and his sister Sana are crazy for Spiderman and Spider Girl. For Yousef's day care birthday party, Roya ordered Marvel Superheroes cuppies with an emphasis on the (surprise!) new Iron Man obsession! Switching gears, I focused on Iron Man - totally easy to do as my boys are just as obsessed. :) I love Marvel for doing a preschool version of these super cool heroes! I made a jumbo cupcake just for Yousef and added the webbing detail to his topper.

Sea Monsters!

PJ is obsessed with Sea Monsters - I had no idea where to start on his 5th birthday cuppies! With much research on these prehistoric sea creatures - here are his cuppies!
